PEI Athletes Compete at Legion National Championships
Track and Field athletes from Prince Edward Island posted some strong results at the recent Legion Track and Field Championships in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
Thomas Docherty of Charlottetown led the way with a 5th place finish in the men’s U18 high jump. Docherty matched the third place height of 1.88m but was eventually awarded 5th place due to missed attempts at previous heights. Docherty also placed 15th in men’s javelin with a throw of 42.43m, and 17th in men’s long jump with a distance of 5.20m
Thomas Yeo of Charlottetown achieved personal bests in each of his events. In the men’s U18 discus, Yeo qualified for finals with a throw of 37.73m and achieved an overall finish of 8th position. His personal best throw of 45.37m earned him 13th position in the javelin.
Grace and Katie Richard of Charlottetown set personal bests in each of their three distance events. In the 2000m steeplechase Grace finished in 14th position with a time of 7:59 followed by Katie in 16th position with a time of 8:03. In the 1500m, Katie finished 30th at 5:07 while Grace was in 31st position with a completion time of 5:10. Finally, in the 300m Grace finished in 11.22 for 21st place followed by Katie in 22nd place at 11.25.
Leah Johnston of Summerside set a personal best of 9.56m in the women’s shot put for 21st place. She also place 14th in the women’s discus.
Finally, Shailynn Richards of Mimenegash had a jump of 9.62m, good for 18th position in the women’s triple jump.
