Islanders Track & Field Club

The Islanders Track and Field Club, located in Charlottetown, is dedicated to providing a safe and interactive environment for athletes to experience Track and Field. Our event-specific coaching and training programs prepare athletes for success. We believe in bringing out the best in our athletes by encouraging them to explore new possibilities and break through barriers to reach their goals.

At Islanders, we believe that every young athlete can have success in track and field. We believe in providing positive opportunities for all athletes to participate and succeed. Our training focuses on developing great athletes, not just runners, through age-appropriate workouts. We also promote a healthy lifestyle for our athletes, coaches, and volunteers.

As athletes grow, we adapt our programs to meet their developmental needs. We follow proper training protocols recognized by Athletics Canada's Long Term Athlete Development model (LTAD), which maximizes trainability at vital stages. While we shift our focus towards training and competition, we always prioritize fun as an important measure of success.

Our program focuses on proper periodization, ownership over training, goal setting, weight training, a fun and interactive environment, Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD), race strategy, confidence building, and athlete-focused workouts.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. Welcome to the team!

Competitions:

There is no expectation to attend competitions.  However, participating in competitions will be at the discretion of both the coach and the athlete. When attending competitions, please note that it is the parent/athlete’s responsibility to get the athlete to the meet.  Certain team events may be funded but it is up to the parents to provide lodging and food in many circumstances.  All athletes, coaches, parents and volunteers must adhere to the Islanders Code of Conduct.

Competition Schedules

For an updated schedule please look to our website. Emails will be sent during each season outlining the competition schedule. Note that certain competitions have standards, and qualification times/places are required to participate.

Meet Day:
Communication with the athlete and parent for each meet will occur and include race day’s schedule of events, meeting locations, maps of route (cross country), check-in procedures etc.  Unless specified, it is recommended that athletes arrive 90 minutes (1.5 hours) before the expected start of their race.  This will allow the athlete to register for the competition, properly warm up and be prepared for a change in schedules (races can run up to 30 minutes ahead).  Athletes, coaches and parents will abide by the code of conduct.
